So I guess working in a tattoo shop does have it's perks. Most of the guys are really nice and willing to hook you up with some free ink. I've gotten two things done thus far since I've started working at Hardwire Tattoo. One of them isnt finished yet but the progress so far has been amazing so I cant wait for ya'll to see it!
This is the second tattoo I've added to my body since I've started working at Hardwire. As you can tell, that yes this is a Zombie Seahorse. One of the guys who works here, Sid, had drawn up a zombie bird but as you can see by my next tattoo I already have a bird on my back. We brainstormed a little and finally came up with a Zombie Seahorse. I think it's awesome. My inner nerd is let out. (I'm a HUGE fan of zombie books and movies. If you know any, feel free to make suggestions!). I also love that its a seahorse. Something that should be so delicate but looks so sinister is so amazing to me! I love it! It's on my left thigh. For those guessing about getting a tattoo, no worries this area does not hurt one bit!
This is the first stage of my tattoo on my back.
I started this piece a few weeks back. At first it was just the outline but this past Monday I came in to get some more work done on it. I think the flower is gorgeous! It hurt so bad though. He went over the same spots 5 times with different colors. By the third time I was almost through with it. There were moments when my eyes would go dizzy and I'd have to focus on one of the posters in his room to keep from fainting. One time I had to even ask for a break because I thought I was going to throw up. The skin just gets so tender from being tattooed repeatedly that it almost gets unbearable! The pain is worth the art though and I love how beautiful the finished product is going to be. Hopefully next Monday I can get the bird finished and then after that I'll only have one more sitting! Be forewarned people who want huge tattoos with lots of shading and detail, it is going to be painful.
I hope everyone thinks they are as beautiful as I do. My mother has even started to tell me that some of the tattoos that she sees are art and not just marring a person's skin. That's what I think. Each tattoo I have is a work of artwork no matter how intricate or simple they are. As humans we have the right express ourselves and to me tattooing is the best way to do this.

Wow, these look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think you are totally right, the contrast of a delicate seahorse with a zombie is like...the coolest thing ever. And since you asked for suggestions, I know you have probobly already seen it, but Zombieland. Watch that the other night and it was awesome. Anyway, awesome tats, looks like they were worth a little pain to get em'.
My dad HATES tattoos but I really want to get a white hummingbird on my wrist soon as a tribute to many of my traveling experiences and my family. I'm super nervous that it will hurt though and that the white will fade quickly or just look stupid. I just don't want it to be super noticeable because I want it to be mostly for me instead of just something super obvious to others. I wish I was as brave as you to get such beautiful colors! I think the shading technique is truly beautiful. My old roommate gets her tattoos done at Hardwire and they are really colorful and incredible so after seeing the results both of you have, I'll probably go there when I finally decide to take the plunge. Maybe it can be a graduation gift to myself :)
ReplyDeleteWhite honestly does fade very quickly so most artists add a small amount of color to it to make it stick to the skin more. White in general is used for more shading than anything but if you want it I'm sure they could do it for you. All of the artists here are really talented. And you probably are as brave as I am. It's just getting past that first step and then your good to go!
ReplyDeleteI have only gotten one tattoo so far and it is on my ribs, I got it a few months ago at Cape Fear Tattoos. Your tattoos are really interesting, what made you think of getting a seahorse? Oh, and I love zombie movies as books as well, if you haven't yet, you should definitely check out The Zombie Survival Guide or World War Z, both by Max Brooks and soo good! How many sessions is it going to take to get the tattoo on your back finished? I'm lucky that when I got my tattoo on my ribs, even though it is decently big, it barely hurt at all, and I hear the ribs are supposed to be one of the spots that hurt the most! Anyway, you should definitely most more pictures of you tattoo when it's done! I'd love to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteI just want to say I absolutely love your bird tattoo! It is so colorful and beautiful! I also adore seahorses so I think that is so awesome. I've always loved torso tattoos, but I've never been thin enough to get one! I don't have a tattoo and have debated whether to ever get one or not. Regardless, if I do decide to get one, I will definitely consider placement. When I think about getting a tattoo, I automatically picture myself at my wedding. If I get a tattoo, I would definitely get one that I would be able to cover in a wedding dress. I have friends with "sleeves" and across the top of their chest. They are beautiful, but I just think it would be so hard to cover when you get married. Yours are in the perfect spots where you wouldn't see them for that kind of occasion. If I did get one, it would have to be small because I have a low tolerance for pain :) My good friend got her kids initials tattooed on her wrist in white ink, which I thought was so cool!
ReplyDeletePaige,
ReplyDeleteI thought your blog this week was really neat. I have three really small tattoos and I actually got my last one done at Hardwire. That's pretty cool that you work there! I think of tattoos as storybooks and memories. I can't imagine getting one as big as yours because I am such a baby when it comes to pain. Haha. I think your art is beautiful and extremely creative. Does Hardwire do black light tats?
